Grandparents

Our grandparents were James Thomas Marsh, who was born Thomas James Marsh 18 Apr 1886 in Rock Island, IL, but was always called Jimmy or Jim growing up. Our Aunt says he didn't know that his first name was Thomas until he was an adult, and as far as we know, always used James T. Marsh. I have not seen all of his early records, but as an adult, the lone exception I have found is in the 1910 U.S. Census for Norwood, Hamilton Co, Ohio, in which he is enumerated as Thomas J. Marsh.

Grandpa was the 2nd of eight children, and oldest son. He died 30 Aug 1964 in San Bernadino, CA where he and our grandma, Birdie Shreve Marsh and older sister Josie Shreve had lived since the 1940's.All are buried at Bellview Cemetery in nearby Ontario, CA.

He married, ca 1907 in Norwood, Ohio, Birdie P. Shreve, youngest daughter of David Shreve and Helenor Kendall who resided in Norwood, and before that in Brown Co, Ohio. The Shreve's, Kendall's, and other of grandma's ancestors, were early settlers in the Brown Co area.
Our grandpa's parents were James Marsh, born 15 Dec 1854 in St. Helen's, Lancashire, England and Elizabeth Anne Hutt, born Aug 1867, and christened 24 Nov 1867 in Glamorgan, Wales.
