MATILDA KINDLE and SAMUEL G. McCLURE 3G Aunt MATILDA KINDLE, ninth child of DAVID KINDLE and THEODOCIA SCOTT, was born 1 March 1823 in Brown Co, Ohio. She married SAMUEL G. McCLURE on 14 Oct 1847 in Brown Co. From census records, we have so far been able to find eight children, three sons and 5 daughters: Harvey B. McClure, Eliza McClure, R.A. McClure, Adaline McClure, William G. McClure, Nancy Jane McClure, Franklin McClure and Margaret McClure. Records of Samuel's second marriage states that he was born in Adams Co, Ohio and that his parents were Samuel McClure and Leget Lacy. The following is from the Story Co, Iowa Marriage Register, Vol. A4, page 90 (thanks to Mark Christian): License no. 131 issued 24 Dec 1880; Issued upon authority of S.G. McCLURE; From the records and notes below, we can conclude that Matilda and Samuel left Brown Co sometime after 1854 when William was born, and were in Illinois, county unknown, before 1856 when Nancy Jane was born. They apparently remained in Illinois at least until Margaret? was born ca 1859 and had moved on to Story Co, Iowa sometime before 1869. Some relatives have been found in Appanoose, Madison and Pottawattamie counties, Iowa, while others in nearby Cass Co, Missiouri and Pike Co, Illinois. Notes:
Samuel McClure, 30, M, Farmer, Ohio In 1870 they were enumerated in New Albany Twp, Story Co, Iowa, family #23, p 137 lines 32-40 and p 138 line 1: S.G. McClure, 49, M, Farmer, $3000/800, Ohio Our next search will try to find them in the 1860 census in Illinois and the 1880 census in Iowa.
